We were up early today. Lots of time to cook before I start for work I thought. I lazed the entire weekend (or spent quality time with the baby) and did not do get the weekly stock of vegetables. So no vegetables in the pantry means aloo ki sabzi! Yaiy aloo! Aloo yaiy!
But the baby had other plans. For some godforsaken reason, he chose today morning to be cranky and wanted to be held all the time. I somehow juggle one baby and a cookerful of potatoes and manage to make the simplest subzi in the world in three hours, that would’ve taken 15 minutes to cook, under normal circumstances. Maid walks in late, I wait till she rolls out the fulkas, drape a saree (yes logic evades me sometimes and I do crazy things like choosing to wear a saree to work amidst this madness) and drive to work, salivating about the potatoes I am going to have for lunch. What a way to start a Monday I tell myself. First half will go in dreaming about lunch, the second half in the potato induced slumber.
And then I open my bag to swipe the ID card. The bag seems lighter. I FORGOT MY LUNCH. I AM A DUMBASS.

Aiiyooo,,,I can almost feel the pain there.HOW CAN U FORGET THE LUNCH..that is the highlight of my day in the office
Psst.. You won’t believe what happened today! I got some boring pulao (made by me of course) for lunch. and it turned out it was aloo in the office cafeteria. Needless to say, I forgot I had got lunch and finally brought the aloo to justice. I am a satisfied woman today. :D
wow!! you managed to cook in the morning! first hats off for that!
and just for that, forgetting is forgiven! :p
cheers!
I manage to cook – yes. But the REAL question is how does the husband manage to ingest and digest the stuff.
Aloo really is the best vegetable in the world and always comes to the rescue when the crisper is empty. What a bummer it got left behind…but surely you did justice on returning home!
I sure did! Ya you can always fall back on potatoes when you run out of stuff in your pantry!
And thanks for dropping by. I read your blog and love the Kashmiri dishes you write about – though I am yet to try out anything.
If you can cook aloo in 3 hours and then FORGET them, you are already the living embodiment of the central message (or at least the most (ab)used one) – don’t worry about the fruits (or in this case, vegetables) of your action. Then why the cloak of anonymity? You don’t need to worry about perception. And if it helps, you do write well. :-)
You’re the only person to say that. Thanks!
Now my principle about karma and phal is that only do karma if it gives you some phal, other wise what’s the point? More on mail.
